Well, now, let me tell ya about this fella, Nikola Jokic. He’s a big ol’ basketball player, real tall, like a giant or somethin’. They say he’s about 6′ 11″, taller than most trees I’ve seen in the yard, that’s for sure. But what’s more interestin’ than his basketball skills is his sweet little family, especially his wife, Natalija. I’ll tell ya all about her, so sit tight!
Natalija, bless her heart, she’s a real fine woman. She’s from the same little town in Serbia as Nikola, a place called Sombor. Now, Sombor ain’t big, about 47,000 folks live there, so I reckon it’s the kind of town where everybody knows everybody. It’s kinda like where I grew up, small and quiet. They both come from that little town, and you could say it’s like fate brought them together.
Now, as it turns out, Nikola and Natalija have known each other since high school. That’s right, they were just young folks back then, probably runnin’ around like all the rest of us do at that age. And wouldn’t you know it, they hit it off right away. They’ve been together for years and years, long before he ever made it big in the NBA. They started datin’ way back in 2013. Now that’s a long time, don’t you think?
But, here’s the thing. Even though they were sweethearts back in Serbia, they had to keep their love goin’ from far away for a good while. Nikola, he’s out playin’ ball in America, and Natalija, well, she was in Serbia, studyin’ and workin’. I reckon it was tough to be apart, but love knows no borders, does it? It’s strong enough to last through all that distance.
So, after all that time apart, they finally got hitched in October of 2020. Now, they were supposed to get married earlier, but then that pesky ol’ pandemic hit and put a stop to a lot of plans, including theirs. But, come October, they made it official, and it was a beautiful day, I reckon. It wasn’t just a fancy wedding with a bunch of hoopla, neither. It was just the two of ’em, their closest family, and a promise to love each other no matter what.
Natalija, she’s a smart woman, too. She’s a psychologist by trade. Went and got her master’s degree from some place called Metropolitan State University of Denver. I don’t know much about them fancy schools, but I know it takes a lot of work to get a degree like that. She’s also a former volleyball player, so she’s got some muscle on her, too. Not that you’d need muscle to stand by a big ol’ guy like Nikola, but still, she’s a strong woman, inside and out.
Not long after they tied the knot, they welcomed their first child, a little girl named Ognjena, born in September of 2021. Ain’t that just the sweetest thing? I bet Nikola couldn’t be prouder to have a little one to dote on, and I’m sure Natalija’s every bit as happy, too. It’s a family, just as it should be.
And even though they’re both real busy folks—Nikola with all his basketball games and Natalija with her work—they sure do make time for each other. You’ll see them out and about sometimes, like when they came to the NBA Global Games in London back in 2017. There she was, right by his side, supporting her man. I reckon it’s nice to have someone you can count on, especially when the world’s watchin’ you all the time, like with them NBA games.
Now, recently, Nikola won his third MVP award, and oh boy, did that stir up a fuss. But you know what? Natalija, she made sure to share a sweet video with the world. It showed their family all cheerin’ him on, callin’ him their MVP. It was real heartfelt, that video, and it just goes to show how much love they got in their family.
So, there you have it, folks. That’s the story of Nikola Jokic and his lovely wife, Natalija. A couple that’s been through a lot together, and yet, they keep standin’ strong, side by side. Ain’t that the kind of love we all want? One that lasts, one that stands the test of time. I sure think so.
