Alright, listen up, let me tell you ’bout these folks, Lauren somethin’, Wood, and that Mayweather fella. Don’t rightly know why you wanna hear ’bout ’em, but I’ll tell ya what I know.
Mayweather, yeah, that boxer fella. Seen him on the telly once. Punching folks, making a ruckus. They say he’s got money, lots of it. Don’t see why folks get paid so much for hittin’ each other, but that’s the way of the world, I guess.
- He’s got kids, they say. Loads of ’em. Grandkids too, little tykes. Teachin’ ’em to punch, just like him. Startin’ ’em young, he is. Guess it runs in the family, like my bad knees.
Now, this Lauren Wood, I heard she’s with Mayweather. Pretty thing, saw her picture in a magazine at the store. Don’t rightly know what she does, maybe she sings or acts or somethin’. Fancy clothes, fancy hair, not like us ordinary folk.
Floyd, they call him Money. Like I said, got a lot of it. Probably got houses bigger than this whole darn town. Probably eats fancy food, not like my canned beans and cornbread.
- He trains people, too. Young fellas, learnin’ to box. One of ’em, Curmel Moton, they say he’s good. Real good. Gonna be like Mayweather, I reckon. More punchin’, more money.
Don’t rightly understand why folks are so interested in these people. They live their lives, we live ours. They got money, we got each other. That’s what matters, ain’t it? Family, friends, good neighbors. That’s more important than all the money in the world.
Mayweather, he fights. That’s what he does. Wins most of the time, I hear. Don’t know who he’s fightin’ next, don’t really care. Got my own problems to worry about. Like fixin’ that leaky roof, and gettin’ the hens to lay more eggs.
Lauren Wood, she’s pretty. That’s all I know. Maybe she’s nice too. Maybe she helps Mayweather spend all that money. Buyin’ fancy things, livin’ in fancy houses. Good for them, I guess. Hope they’re happy.
Heard Mayweather’s got a temper, though. Gets angry sometimes. Well, who doesn’t? I get angry when my back hurts, or when the crops ain’t growin’ right. He probably gets angry about different things, rich people things.
Anyway, that’s all I know ’bout them. Mayweather, the puncher. Lauren Wood, the pretty one. They live their lives, we live ours. And that’s just the way it is. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens.
