Well, howdy there, y’all! Let’s talk about this here “Detroit team” thing. Sounds like somethin’ from one of them puzzles, you know, the ones with all them squares and clues? I ain’t never been good at them things, all them words and such. But my grandbaby, she loves ’em. Always scribblin’ and mumblin’ ’bout “across” and “down.” Bless her heart.
So, this “Detroit team,” huh? I reckon that means a sports team, like them fellas runnin’ around with a ball. Detroit, that’s a big city, ain’t it? Must have all sorts of teams. Football, baseball, maybe even that hockey thing with the ice and sticks. My nephew, he likes that hockey. Says it’s excitin’. I just see a bunch of fellas skatin’ real fast and bumpin’ into each other. Reminds me of chickens in the yard when you throw ’em some corn.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for an answer to a puzzle, I ain’t much help. But I can tell you what I know. Detroit’s got them Lions, that’s football. Big tough guys, wearin’ them helmets and pads. They run and jump and try to get that ball across the line. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. That’s just how it goes, I guess. Like plantin’ corn, sometimes you get a good crop, sometimes the bugs eat it all up.

- Red Wings – Hockey guys, skatin’ and bumpin’
Then there’s them Tigers, baseball fellas. They swing them bats and try to hit that little ball a long way. Summertime game, that one. Nice and slow, good for sittin’ in the shade with a glass of lemonade. My husband, he used to love baseball. Listened to it on the radio all the time. Said it was relaxin’. I never got it, but he enjoyed it, so that’s all that mattered.
And don’t forget them Pistons, basketball fellas. They run up and down the court, dribblin’ that ball and throwin’ it in the hoop. Fast game, that one. Lots of runnin’ and jumpin’. Makes me tired just watchin’ it. But them young folks, they seem to like it. My grandbaby, she even tried playin’ basketball once. Ended up trippin’ over her own feet and fallin’ flat on her face. Poor thing.
And then there’s them Red Wings, the hockey fellas. Like I said, skatin’ and bumpin’. That’s about all I know about them. Seems like a rough game, all that ice and them sharp skates. But folks seem to enjoy it. To each their own, I always say. You like what you like, and that’s all there is to it. Just like some folks like grits and some folks like oatmeal. Me, I like grits. Good ol’ Southern grits with butter and salt. Can’t beat it.
So, if you’re lookin’ for an answer for your puzzle, I reckon you gotta figure out how many letters it needs. Is it a short word or a long word? Is it talkin’ about football, baseball, basketball, or hockey? That’s the kinda stuff you gotta think about. Like I said, I ain’t no good at puzzles, but I can tell you a little somethin’ about Detroit and their teams. Just a bunch of fellas runnin’ around with balls and sticks, tryin’ to win a game. That’s about the size of it.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. Got a pot of beans simmerin’ on the stove and some cornbread bakin’ in the oven. Nothin’ fancy, just good ol’ country cookin’. That’s the kinda stuff I like. Simple and hearty. Like them Detroit teams, just tryin’ to get the job done. Whether it’s runnin’ with a football, swingin’ a bat, dribblin’ a basketball, or skatin’ on the ice, they’re all just tryin’ to win. And that’s all there is to it.
And hey, if you find out the answer to that puzzle, let me know. Maybe I’ll even try doin’ one myself someday. But probably not. Too much thinkin’ for this old lady. I’d rather just sit on the porch and watch the fireflies. Now that’s somethin’ I can understand.
